Sport is a way to ‘inspire generations’ (Olympics 2012) and over the past five years the Guildford Mukono Link has helped to initiate a number of school and community sports projects for girls and boys of all abilities in Mukono.
Following the arrangement in previous years with The Kids’ League, Guildford Mukono Sports is run by its co-ordinator Kalule Abdu under the guidance of the local committee.
What is the project?
For just £3, a child from Mukono can play football for a whole year, To make a donation please do this through our CAF page.
- The Kids League Mukono was started by TKL in September 2011 as weekly mixed ability community football leagues for primary aged girls and boys between 6-14 years. Families from poor backgrounds were targeted and the Guildford Link sponsored 30 children each season, totaling 90 in one year.
- The initial experimental project has been revised to increase the number of children from 150 to at least 500 by reducing costs and locating the leagues at three local schools. It is now being managed by the Mukono committee.
- The aim is to increase accessibility for poor children. It has been a pilot for TKL as a model within schools, which could be expanded to other districts of Uganda.
